Rascal Flatts New Album..

New favorite song..

Nothing Like This

"There's nothing in my life,
I'd say I regret,
But there's something in your eyes that makes me forget,
The times that I believed that love was good as love could be,
I had it all, but I was wrong.

Thought I'd been touched,
Thought I'd been kissed,
Thought I'd been loved,
But it was nothing like this.

You can't describe the sea,
Unless you been there before.
It's just a mystery,
Until your standing on the shore,
And moved by every wave
Taking your breath away like you do,
To me.

Thought I'd been touched,
Thought I'd been kissed,
Thought I'd been loved,
But it was nothing nothing like this.

It's like another life,
Like I haven't felt a thing, until you.

Thought I'd been touched,
Thought I'd been kissed,
Thought I'd been loved,
But it was nothing like this.

Ohhhhh hooo
It was nothing like this

Ohhhhhh ohhhhhhh ohh

Nothing like, nothing like this.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhh"

Music in Rememberance to Abby

Starting off my week was actually good to write in this blog. This week will be a huge rememberance to my good friend Abby Cockrill who was killed in a drunk driving accident on August 22 of this year. It really shook me inside because she was the first good friend of mine in my 23 years that I have lost. In relating this post and her to music there is some songs that really make me think of her and her life. "Defying Gravity" from the musical Wicked is a song that always makes me remember her because she and I loved that musical so much.

"I'm through accepting limits
''cause someone says they're so
Some things I cannot change
But till I try, I'll never know!
Too long I've been afraid of
Losing love I guess I've lost
Well, if that's love
It comes at much too high a cost!
I'd sooner buy
Defying gravity"

Another song that reminds me of her is a song that came out in country music right at the time of her death. It was like she was trying to tell us something. It is called, "If I Die Young" by The Band Perry.

"A penny for my thoughts, oh no I’ll sell them for a dollar
They're worth so much more after I’m a gonner
And maybe then you’ll hear the words I been singin’
Funny when you're dead how people start listenin’"

Songs can really help a person cope and mourn over a lost friend or relative. I know music has helped me cope with her loss and this week being her bell ringing and her 22nd birthday on Friday. This week is a week of rememberance to her life and how much I truly miss her.

Music in Sports

As I was watching the Chiefs game I heard music playing in the background of the stadium. My roommates and I were talking about how music can help sports teams as well. Music is everywhere and within sports it can really help players get pumped. I know in high school all of our varsity seniors got to pick a song that they ran out into in almost every sport. A song whether its upbeat or even slow can help a player get their head into the game. Also the crowd can get more in to the game as well. I know at the Chiefs game for kickoffs and touchdowns we have the same music played and the crowd looks forward to it every game. Music can make traditions at sports events doesn't matter the sport.

Project Proposal: Analysis/Solutions:

Proposing solutions to this problem that would album sales rise higher than what they are is for artists to market their albums better to their fans. In society today people look for convenience and downloading the music they love straight to a mobile device fulfills this want. So one solution I bring to discussion is how they market their CD. One way to market the artist’s albums better is to get the fan to buy their album by adding hidden tracks to the album or tracks only released on the album. I have personally bought many albums because of this feature. Another way is to add promotions to albums. When I have bought an album of my favorite bands sometimes they will have a free subscription to their fan club or a free promotional item. These types of marketing skills could help album sales rise. Media is also a huge part of marketing and when you think about when you’re watching TV or on the computer ad’s or commercials for albums are not as common as ad’s for IPhone’s or Blackberry’s. If artist’s marketed their albums with promotions or hidden tracks on online sites or as commercials fans might buy albums versus media through their mobile devices.

Project Proposal: Research

To find out more about this topic researching music industry issues and statistics about how album sales have gone down and why this problem exists. Also researching mobile media and how it is expanding. Marketing behind mobile media versus album marketing would also be a good way to find more information to help find solutions to the problem. Research for this could be found on music industry sites, online articles and even interviews. The Apple website and ITunes could even have information as well.

Project Proposal:Context of Proposal

Album sells have dropped 10% from 1999 to 2008. In the 1990’s people were more prone to buy albums to listen to new music of the artist they like but now in the 21st century with technology advancing this makes it hard for artist to sell actual albums to their fans. New products with mobile devices within companies are advancing their products to allow their customers to download single tracks or whole albums directly to their phone. From 2007 to the end of the year the mobile music market is expected to jump from $1.7 billion to $3 billion. As CD sales plummet, the music industry is expected to see a $5 billion decline in total music sales in the next three years, from $31.8 billion to $26.2 billion. Because of this, record labels will look to the mobile space for additional revenue instead of album sales like in the past.

Proposal Project Problem: Mobile Music

In the music industry today albums or CD’s are dropping in sales due to file sharing and downloading programs but the new issue is mobile devices. Mobile devices have become more advanced within the technology to be able to buy individual songs or albums through the phone to directly put it on the device. Mobile devices such as IPhones or Blackberry’s are becoming more popular to where you can get right on ITunes and download a song or album. Mobile media is becoming a huge problem for artists if they are not making any percentage on the music being downloaded by the buyer.

Garth Brooks: The Legend of Country Music

In 2007, Garth Brooks sold out a nine day concert series in Kansas City. Garth Brooks is a country music legend with 13 platinum albums and sold out concerts over a decade of his music. Three years ago Garth Brooks decided to do a reunion tour and play a concert. He chose Kansas City, Missouri to do the concert because it was a central location and the new Sprint Center had just opened shortly. After the concert sold out in a matter of minutes he decided to add another show which ended up being nine after the day was done. People from all over the country came to see him perform and said that each show was phenomenal.

IPod's

In October of 2001, Apple released the first official IPod. This became a crazy, grossing product that has made Apple a billion dollar company. The first generation IPod was 5GB hard drive with 1,000 songs.
The second generation would come in the summer of 2002, with both a 10GB and 20GB model. In 2003, we experienced the first real redesign of the device with the third generation of the classic iPod. It came in a variety of sizes--10, 15, 20, 30 and 40 GB. Now Apple has brought out the IPod touch with video and the newest IPod Nano with a small touch screen. IPod's are making music easier and more conventient for people to listen to the music they love.

SAC Concert: Ying Yang Twins & Sean Kingston

This past Friday, Student Activities Council brought the Ying Yang Twins and Sean Kingston for the Northwest fall 2010 concert. The concert sold out in 5 hours which made record time for any Northwest concert. The concert was amazing and the Ying Yang Twins put on an amazing show! The concert was in the PAC so any seat was an amazing seat! I went with my roommates and some other friends and we felt like this was one of the best concerts by far at Northwest.

Goo Goo Dolls

The Goo Goo Dolls are an older band that came out in 1986. The Goo Goo Dolls are a rock almost punk genre and the lead singer has a very soulful voice. They write their own music and play their own instrutments and their an amazing band. Here is one of my favorite songs by them its called "Black Balloon".

"Comin' down the world turned over
And angels fall without you there
And I'll go on to bring you home
All because I'm
All because I'm
And I'll become
What you became to me"

Save the Music

Music is hard topic for me to find something that I can argue about because I love music so much but one thing that I can think of is how music programs are being cut out of schools. I found this VH1 Save the Music commercial on youtube explaining how they help fund this programs. Throughout school I was very involved in our music programs and I feel that if those would have ever been taken away from me I wouldn't have been the person I am today. When I think back to memories of high school being in choir was a very huge chunk of it. I did choir all four years of high school and I believe it helped me stay out of trouble and really focus on school. Choir was something I actually looked forward to and I went to district and state competitions. Music programs have been known to help children educationally and better children who come from a bad home environment. Taking away these programs could really hurt a school and the betterment of the children.

Roommates

Today I was sitting in my living room with my roommates starting to write this blog and I was trying to think about what I was going to write and I decided to write about their favorite types of genres. My roommate Olivia's favorite genre of music is alternative because she really enjoys the concerts that this genre puts on. Tara my other roommates favorite genre is Disney music because she really enjoys the movies and the music makes it ten times better. My other roommate Kristen loves country music because the song are always something she can relate to. I thought this would be really cool to see how music is so diverse. This shows just between three different people they all love different genres for different reasons. I find this really interesting and just another reason why music is such an amazing thing.

Country Music

"Country music is the people's music. It just speaks about real life and about truth and it tells things how they really are. "

-Faith Hill

Faith Hill says it perfectly. A lot of people think that country music is about  your dog, your wife leaving you and campfires and farms. Country music has changed my life. It helps me through every day and I have found songs and artists that I can always relate to. I love that fact that its about real life situations and a lot of country artists write their own music. That is something I look for in a good artist and a lot of them put on amazing concerts and can actually sing well live. I have seen Brad Paisley, Kenny Chesney, Keith Urban, Rascal Flatts, Jason Aldean, Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood, Lady Antebellum, Darrius Rucker, Dierks Bentley and more. This genre is my favorite and always has been.

"True country music is honesty, sincerity, and real life to the hilt."

-Garth Brooks

"My Amazing Experience of a Lifetime"

For my essay topic I am writing about when I got to meet my favorite band Rascal Flatts last fall. I have been a huge fan of this band since they first came out 9 years ago. I saw my first concert of them when I was a sophomore in high school with a big group of friends. I loved it so much that this past fall was my eighth time seeing them in concert. I have seen them perform every album live and and I am true fan. I love their music and lyrics and they put on one hell of a show. About four years ago I joined their fan club and starting recieving VIP tickets to where I would sit in the first 10 rows of the venue. After getting these you could also put your name in a drawing for meet and greet passes. Well this past fall I finally won. So in my essay I will be explaining "My Amazing Experience of a Lifetime."

Growing Up Around Music

Since I can remember my family has been playing music. My parents were always big on playing the radio in the car and always introducing me to different bands and genres. I remember my mom and dad always playing Styx and classic rock songs. To this day I still like classic rock and jammin out to these songs. When I was three my family taped me singing every word to "Kokomo" by the Beach Boys. Music has been a part of my life since I was a baby. It is something I grew up on and I wouldn't have traded that for anything. I loved being in the car and my parents would ask what station or they would always pop in a CD of my choice. I have had so many memories growing up with music involved and one being concerts. I started going in 6th grade and since then been to almost 40 concerts. My parents were always the parents taking me and my friends as the chaperon for the concert. Music has brought me and my family closer because we all like the same kinds for the most part. Music is a part of society and an enjoyment that can bring a familiy or a relationship together.

"Music and Lyrics"

This is the trailer for the 2007 movie, "Music and Lyrics". This was the first search result when I searched "music and lyrics" in youtube. This movie is about a retired pop artist who is trying to write a catchy song for a new pop band and Drew Barrymore's character who is watering his plants ends up helping him find the inner poet and lyricist in himself. In the trailer on youtube Drew Barrymore says, "as you get to know a person, thats their story who they are underneath." The movie shows that music and lyrics can bring two people together and it can start to write their own song about their experience together.

Music Changing Overtime

Looking back on music it has changed so much over time. In the 50's it was simple and catchy lyrics. During the 60's and 70's classic rock changed lyrics by actually singing about real life experiences. In the 80's came along a different style of music with more of a techno feel and also came MTV who brought us music videos. In the 90's came pop music and boy bands. In the 2000's and especially in the last few years artists have had a new approach to music I feel focusing more on your image then your music. A lot of good music and good lyrics come from the rock and country side of music rather than the pop side. It seems that pop artists come and go very fast and their lyrics don't really have a substance. I watched the Video Music Awards last night on MTV and it really is all about image in the pop world. When I think of good music a lot of it is from the 60's and 70's and newer rock and country music. Music just isnt the same and I always wonder what my kids will end up listening to. Music has changed some people think for the good, other think for the worse but hopefully it can only get better from where we are now.

"music in my blood"

I first got interested in music when I was little. Ever since I can remember I have been interested in music and singing. Its funny because music has honestly been apart of my life in a lot of major things through my life. When I was younger I danced and sang in my church choir. As I grew up I was in choirs all throughout elementary, middle school and high school. Music, harmonies and lyrics have been in my blood and helping me through so much in my life. Now that I am in college just little things like listening to music when I study, when I am in the car, on my way to class or when I am down about life its uplifting and is something I do every day. When my grandpa passed away five years ago I found a song that helped me through his death and I am going to get a tatoo with those lyrics on my foot after I graduate. Music can be an inspiration and I know for me it is everyday. It helps me cope and deal with the every day stresses of life.
"That's the time (thats the time) you must keep on trying, smile- What's the use of crying, You'll find that life is still worthwhile, If you just smile."- Smile (Charlie Chaplin)

Life of Music

My theme for my blog is music. Music for me has always been something that has helped me through everyday challenges. It is something that soothes me and calms me down. It something that gets me through problems and a lot of times I can relate to the artist and their lyrics. I would much rather listen to music than watch TV any day and music is something just touches my soul. Here is a some lyrics that make me remember some very good people I have lost in my life.

"If I had my way

It would do this every day
I would never see the sun
Because the closest I get
To holding you again
Is every time that sky opens up

It feels like it's rainin' you
I can't explain it "
